Retrofitting Reimagined 1: what is Retrofit and what are the Benefits?

Retrofitting Reimagined 1: what is Retrofit and what are the Benefits?

Curious about retrofitting but unsure where to start? This beginner-friendly webinar will explore the basics of retrofitting, from reducing energy bills and cutting carbon emissions to creating warmer, healthier homes.

We’ll also look at how retrofitting can play a vital role in building a low-carbon Dorset. Join us to learn, ask questions, and share your thoughts about how retrofit could make a difference in your home and neighbourhood.

Key Questions We’ll Explore:

  • What is retrofit and how can I benefit my home?
  • What are the first steps I need to consider?
  • How could a Retrofit One-Stop Shop make it easier to get started?

Two seasoned experts will share their insights into creating healthier, more sustainable homes:

  • Jennifer Morisetti is a Retrofit Advisor and former Director of Sabey Homes Ltd. Twenty years ago, she and her husband purchased a semi-derelict, mid-16th-century house in North Dorset. This project provided an opportunity to learn on the job and ensure that the restoration included a thorough retrofit. Her experience led her to qualify as a retrofit adviser for pre-1919 buildings at the University of Wales. Jennifer is passionate about dispelling the myth that listed buildings can’t be retrofitted. Through talks and Open Greener Homes events, she shares the energy-saving measures installed in her home, including a ground source heat pump. As the founder of Creating Healthy Homes, she also informs the public about the chemical perils present in many homes and highlights natural alternatives that promote healthier living environments.
  • Peter Bywater, Managing Director of Ridgewater Energy, brings 28 years of experience in the retrofit industry, specialising in fuel poverty and carbon reduction programs in Dorset. Peter’s passion lies in helping people achieve affordable, low-carbon warmth and better indoor air quality, improving lives while supporting the planet.

Together, they’ll explore the benefits of retrofitting and its potential to transform homes and communities.

This webinar is part of Dorset Retrofit Reimagined, a month-long event series exploring how upgrading our homes can transform not just how we live, but how we connect with each other and the places we call home. Together, we’ll imagine what a community-driven Retrofit One-Stop Shop for Dorset could look like—and how it could help us build a greener, more connected future.

This event series is brought to you by Wessex Community Assets and Dorset Community Energy, in collaboration with Dorset Climate Action Network, This Living Place and Sustainable Dorset. Together, we’re working to explore how retrofitting can create greener, more connected communities across Dorset.
